Buying an LCD TV  

If you are thinking about buying yourself a new LCD TV, then you no doubt want to know the good and bad points of this type of screen. LCD Tvs have virtually eliminated or made other types of Tvs obsolete. Only a few Tvs remain that can actually compete with LCD TV technology. These primarily include the plasma and the LED TV.

The advantages to having an LCD TV are many. For one, they offer a much brighter picture than other types of Tvs. This makes them suitable for brightly lit environments, such as the living room in the middle of the day. They also emit fewer emissions than other types of screens.

They emit less electromagnetic and magnetic fields than CRTs, which is definitely a plus. Other advantages to the LCD TV lie in it’s very low occurrence of geometric distortion (almost nonexistent), and in its low power consumption. LCD Tvs consume about one third of the power that CRTs use, which means that they produce less heat and consume less electricity.

There are a few disadvantages to LCD Tvs as well, however. For one, the resolution and aspect ratio are fixed, and cannot be changes. Second, they are not as suitable for use in a very dark environment, mostly due to their inability to produce dark grays and pure black picture.

And finally, they actually cost a lot more than CRTs. However, on the other hand, since a lot of companies have stopped selling CRTs altogether, LCD might actually be the next cheapest option!

LCD Tvs are, in one word, outstanding. In all truth, trading in your old TV to get a new LCD TV is going to seem a lot like Christmas. You really cannot go wrong with a brand new, flat screen, high definition LCD. Just make sure to buy a good brand that you trust.

If a good brand is a bit too expensive, then make sure that the cheaper brand comes with a warranty or product care plan. This way, you will be protected in the event of an unexpected breakdown. A lot of stores will sell you a warranty for ten or twenty extra dollars....and on a high dollar item such as this, you would probably do well to take full advantage of it!
